This Sunday, November 15th, the city of São Paulo celebrated the 200th anniversary of Jardim da Luz Park, the oldest public park in the capital, inaugurated in 1825. The park, located on Avenida Tiradentes, next to the Pinacoteca, welcomed thousands of visitors for a special program organized by the São Paulo City Hall.
Mayor Ricardo Nunes participated in the celebrations and highlighted the municipality's commitment to the park's revitalization, which is undergoing renovations to give the people of São Paulo a renewed, safe, and even more inviting environment. According to the mayor, Jardim da Luz will continue to be a space for meeting, culture, well-being, and memory, preserving its historical importance in the heart of the city.
The 200th-anniversary celebration included theatrical performances, historical reenactments, art workshops, guided tours, musical performances, and cultural activities that retraced the park's history over two centuries.
During the event, Ricardo Nunes also reinforced the "Zero Fare on Sundays" initiative, a measure that has facilitated access for residents throughout the city to parks, museums, and cultural attractions in São Paulo. With free transportation, many families took the opportunity to visit Jardim da Luz and participate in the festivities.
Sunday was marked by joy, remembrance, and movement. Jardim da Luz Park, with its 200 years of history, reaffirms its role as a green, cultural, and emotional heritage of the São Paulo capital, celebrating the past while preparing for an even more vibrant future.
Your words of gratitude will mean so much! There are so many folks in our community who are catalysts for change, from Obama Foundation Leaders tackling our world’s most pressing issues like climate change and health care to Girls Opportunity Alliance partners propelling girls to reach their full potential and mentors in the My Brother’s Keeper Alliance working to improve real-life outcomes for boys and young men of color. This is our opportunity to thank them for their fierce dedication, tenacity, and commitment to building a more just, equitable, and sustainable world. Sula, I hope you’ll join me and take just a few minutes of your time to sign the card and leave a message of gratitude and support for The Obama Foundation changemakers! We’re collecting the signatures and notes in time for Thanksgiving, so the deadline to sign the card is this Wednesday, November 26. I hope to see your name in the bunch before we share these out! Thanks for being a part of The Obama Foundation community! —Valerie Valerie Jarrett Chief Executive Officer The Obama Foundation |

If every supporter reading this donated a 3X-matched gift of $7 to support state Dems, we’d have the resources to defend and expand Democratic power in state legislatures across the map. 💪
But we know not everyone can pitch in right now, so we’re relying on our most dedicated supporters to make your first donation of the year to the DLCC before our November deadline. |
We hope you can step up today. 🙂
Thank you,
Team DLCC |
