The people of Washington, D.C. have been fighting for statehood for over 200 years — so why is D.C. still not a state?

We know why.

IT’S NOT A COINCIDENCE THAT D.C. HAS A HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF BLACK RESIDENTS THAN ANY OF THE 50 STATES AND IS THE ONLY CAPITAL OF A DEMOCRATIC NATION WHOSE RESIDENTS DO NOT HAVE A VOTE IN THE FEDERAL LEGISLATURE.

THIS BLACK HISTORY MONTH, WE NEED YOU TO STAND WITH US IN DEMANDING THAT WASHINGTON, D.C. BE GRANTED STATEHOOD. PLEASE SIGN OUR PETITION IMMEDIATELY — YOUR VOICE IS CRITICAL TO THIS FIGHT!

ADD YOUR NAME

The population of D.C. is over 700,000, greater than both Wyoming and Vermont. That’s 700,000 taxpaying Americans whose voices aren’t being heard in the federal legislature — and almost half of those voices are Black.

THAT’S UNACCEPTABLE. ADD YOUR NAME TO OUR PETITION RIGHT NOW AND VOICE YOUR SUPPORT FOR THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF BLACK AMERICANS LIVING AND PAYING TAXES IN D.C. WITHOUT REPRESENTATION:

— The Collective PAC

The Collective PAC is strategically focused on creating a truly equitable democracy where our nation’s local, state and federal governments have diverse and talented elected leadership and Black people are fully represented in positions of power to create the policies necessary to progress our communities forward. Since our inception in 2016, we have helped 110 candidates win general elections at the local, state and federal levels. We strive to support the next wave of progressive and unapologetic Black candidates who will usher in a sea of change in our political system while helping America fulfill its promise of democracy by creating a government that will truly be for the people and of the people.

BIG NEWS: Democrats won THREE special elections in Pennsylvania on Tuesday night – blocking Republicans from taking control of the chamber!

PA Victory

This is HUGE – so much was at stake in these races. With these three victories, Democrats just stopped Pennsylvania’s extremist GOP from passing dangerous restrictions on abortion and creating barriers to the ballot box ahead of 2024.

But we can’t let our guard down now – Republicans pour money into special elections, and they refuse to cut their losses now. With less than two weeks until our next must-win special election, we’re counting on our grassroots supporters to give Democrats the resources they need to go toe-to-toe with their Republican opponents in special elections across the country.

The GOP isn’t going to let a single special election opportunity pass by without a fight, so we need to be prepared: Will you chip in $7 right now to help elect state Democrats who will work to defend abortion access, voting rights, and so much more in states like Pennsylvania and across the country?

With Joe McAndrew, Abigail Salisbury, and Matt Gergely in the Pennsylvania House, Democrats will be able to protect abortion access, defend our democracy, make our communities safer, and build a better future for Pennsylvanians.

And if we keep up the momentum, we can replicate these wins in New Hampshire – but we need you with us.

Can we count on you today?

Hey Sula,

I have to level with you there are ongoing threats against our democracy that will have a consequential impact on 2024 and beyond.

Here’s how map manipulators and conservative extremists are doubling down on their anti-democratic tactics in 2023 and taking things a step further:

→ taking political opportunity to gerrymandering maps
→ suppressing voting power
→ failing to improve the fairness of state legislative maps

TAKE ACTION FOR FAIR MAPS TODAY!

North Carolina
Conservative legislative leadership filed a petition to reconsider the Harper v. Hall ruling that struck down the legislature’s gerrymandered state senate map. This is an attempt to undermine the state’s system of checks and balances and seek political opportunity, under their belief that new justices on North Carolina’s supreme court would side with them simply because they have the same party affiliation.

Ohio
Last month, House Bill 458 was signed into law. This bill will force Ohioans to show a state-issued photo ID when voting in person, denying voting access to many Ohioans that previously voted using an alternate form of identification indicating their current address. It also eliminates early voting on the Monday before Election Day, shortens the deadline to apply to cast absent voters’ ballots by mail and limits polling place accessibility.

Texas
The Texas Senate is gearing up for another round of redistricting. According to the Texas Demographic Center, communities of color have accounted for over 95% of growth during the previous decade. A new state legislative map should reflect this demographic shift and allow communities of color the opportunity to vote for their candidate of choice. However, experts predict no significant changes to the maps.

Remember that all the progress we have made is fragile. And I want to be clear. We must act now to protect our democracy. The new wave of radical gerrymandering and threats to our democracy are happening at this very second.

All On The Line needs your help today. Will you rush a contribution to boost us in our fight against gerrymandering?
