A new poll was just released ahead of Virginia’s ultra-competitive elections: 2023 Virginia Generic Ballot | University of Mary Washington |
---|
Democrats: | 40% |
---|
Republicans: | 37% |
---|
Our lead is within the margin of error. With only 35 days left before polls close and Virginians already casting their ballots, it’s game time. Every single seat is on the ballot next month – this is our chance to finally flip the Republican-controlled House and defend our slim majority in the Senate. There is too much at stake to take our foot off the gas, we need to give these elections everything we have. We’re calling on our grassroots team to join the fight and rush $7 to defeat extreme Republicans in states like Virginia. If you've stored your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will process immediately. |
This election will be the first time Virginians vote for a full state legislature since Roe v. Wade was overturned, and it’s their first time voting on new district lines. Republicans are threatening to enact a far-right agenda if they win, with Gov. Youngkin’s extreme abortion ban at the forefront. Because of support from this team, we’ve already invested over $2 million in Virginia. But we cannot stop there. This is shaping up to be one of the most important elections this year. Democrats only need to flip THREE seats to flip the VA House. We have to meet the moment and protect reproductive care, fight for fair maps, and defend our fundamental freedoms. Chip in $7 now to make sure Democrats in states like Virginia have everything they need to win on Election Day and beyond → Let's do this, Team DLCC DONATE »MAKE IT MONTHLY »
| | Reproductive care should not be up for debate. It’s a medical matter and a fundamental freedom. And yet, Republicans are dead-set on attacking abortion at every opportunity – and their threats are getting serious ahead of Virginia’s elections. Republican Gov. Youngkin is trying to pass an extreme abortion ban that could include JAIL TIME for doctors who provide abortions. But he’s not alone – every Virginia Republican state legislator who is running for re-election is on the record with explicit anti-abortion positions. Virginia is the last state in the South without an abortion ban, and it’s under direct attack this November. Republicans have raised over $19 million this cycle from right-wing donors, and they’ll use these funds to fight tooth-and-nail for their anti-abortion agenda. There is too much at risk to sit these elections out, so we need your help to rush resources to elect Democrats in places like Virginia so they can protect abortion and reproductive care nationwide. Can you chip in $7 today to join this fight? With only 36 days until Election Day in Virginia, it could not be a more critical moment. If you've stored your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will process immediately. |
Restoring and protecting abortion starts in the states, and right now, it’s all eyes on Virginia. We only need to flip three seats to gain control of the VA House and protect our fundamental freedoms, but we cannot do it without your help. Let’s do this, Team DLCC DONATE »MAKE IT MONTHLY »
Tax Reform and VAT implementation in Brazil Thursday, October 5, 2023 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. (Eastern Time - U.S. and Canada)
|
|
Brazil’s tax reform represents a milestone achievement. While estimates are imprecise and actual results will depend on conditions at the time, the reform could potentially boost GDP from its current sub-2% trend to closer to 4%. The new regime consolidates five different federal, state, and municipal taxes, which were previously subject to 27 different state-level and 5,600 municipal-specific legislations, numerous exemptions, incentives, and sector-specific credits. These taxes were charged cumulatively, with taxes due upon taxes, and paid at the point of production. The new regime replaces this with a non-cumulative dual VAT charge, paid upon consumption of the goods / services, with three rates: federal, state, and municipal. To maintain the same level of tax revenue, the combined rate will be high (at least 25%) and may increase depending on costly exemptions being discussed in Congress. Conditions are favorable for the constitutional amendment to be approved in 2023, with additional laws detailing important components needing approval in 2024. The transition for taxpayers will take a decade to complete. But for a proposal that has been in the making for four decades, this is a remarkable achievement.
The Chamber has gathered a panel of experts to discuss Brazil’s VAT reform and its impacts on the legal environment, entrepreneurial expectations, and growth. Please join us for this informative and timely program. |

| | Voters are already casting their ballots in Virginia – and Democrats are laser-focused on flipping the VA House and defending our Senate majority. These five seats are toss-up races where the battle could be won or lost: District | Democratic Candidate | HD-97 | Michael Feggans | HD-21 | Joshua Thomas | HD-82 | Kimberly Pope Adams | SD-24 | Monty Mason | SD-31 | Russet Perry |
Losing even one race could make the difference between handing the GOP total control of state government, and preventing anti-LGBTQ+ laws, abortion bans, and anti-democratic legislation that threatens our democracy. The impact of Virginia’s elections will be felt nationwide. Every seat we lose is a step backward for state Democrats. Will you rush $7 to elect Democrats to these vital seats and across the country? If you've stored your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will process immediately. |
